Bob Jones High School in Madison (AL) is home to two of the top prospects in the state for the 2004 class. While most recruiting fans are familiar with defensive lineman David Brown, his teammate and starting running back Max Martin has amassed three scholarship offers including one this weekend while on an unofficial visit.

?I went to Alabama with David to watch them scrimmage and see the team and while I was there Coach (Mike) Price offered me a scholarship,? he said. ?I was surprised because I didn?t really expect it but at the same time I am very grateful.?

Martin, 6-foot-2, 210-pounds, indicated that before his visit to the Capstone that Alabama wasn?t one of his early favorites. However, all of that changed after his visit.

?I really enjoyed the whole visit and had a lot of fun on campus. I went to the Paul Bryant Museum and it really enlightened me about Alabama?s history and tradition. I was impressed,? Martin said. ?The visit really changed my impression of them and now they are high on my list.?

While visiting practice, Martin talked with some of the coaches and had a chance to see how the new Alabama staff ran their practices and he came away impressed.

?The coaches there are doing a good job of running the program and they are really nice and enthusiastic,? he said. ?I really did not know that much about them before, so I?m glad that I made the trip and had a chance to see things for myself.?

According to Martin, recruiting will have to take a backseat as he concentrates on his senior season.

?I?m just focused on being the best player and running back that I can be. Working hard in the weight room and doing anything it takes to improve,? he said.

?Alabama and Auburn are both on the same level with Alabama making up a lot of ground this week. I plan to go back to the A-day game next weekend. There are other schools I like, such as Michigan, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Miami and Florida, but I?m not close to a decision.?

Last season Martin, who carries a 2.5 GPA and 24 ACT score, rushed for 1,069 yards and nine touchdowns on 136 carries while also hauling in five passes for 133 yards and four touchdowns. Defensively, as a part time player linebacker, he recorded 53 tackles and two sacks.

Martin also boasts early offers from Auburn and Iowa State.
